1. How to connect BBB-EXP43 with BeagleBone Black
When connect BBB-EXP43 with BeagleBone Black, Figure 3 shows the right connects direction. If connect to the wrong direction, the Beaglebone Black can’t be push down to connect tightly: The LAN connector and Power Connector on Beaglebone Black will conflict with the RS232 connector on BBB-EXP43.
2. How to connect Power to the System
BBB-EXP43 has no Power Input Connector; it gets current from Beaglebone Black by the expansion Connector. Users should use 5V/1A Power adapter connect to Beaglebone Black. Be Attention: Provide current by USB Cable is not enough for BBB-EXP43.
3. How to change Boot Method
Beaglebone Black can be changed boot method by push the Button S2. When pushed button S2 when system power on, BeagleBone Black will boot from uSD card, or it will boot from eMMC by default.
When connect with BBB-EXP43, the Button S2 on the Beaglebone black will be hide and not easy to touch. BBB-EXP43 connects this boot signal to switch SW2 as Figure 2 shows. When user switch it to Left side, the system will boot from uSD card, when user switch it to Right side, the system will boot from eMMC.
4. Power and Reset Button
BeagleBone Black use Button S3 as Power button, Expansion board connect this signal to Button S7 as Figure 1 shows. So BBB-EXP43 button S7 will have the same effect with S3 on the BeagleBone Black.
BeagleBone Black use Button S1 as Reset button, The BBB-EXP43 connect this signal to Button S1 as Figure 1 shows. So BBB-EXP43 button S1 will have the same effect with S1 on the BeagleBone Black.
5. User Button and user LED
BBB-EXP43 has add 5 user Buttons as S2 to S6 as Figure 7 shows, User can define the Button function in software. Debian have define these Buttons as ”LEFT”,”RIGHT”, “UP”,”DOWN”,”ENTER” by default.
BBB-EXP43 add 1 user LED label as D1 as Figure 4 shows. User can define its function in software. And add 1 Power LED labeled as D2. When the Beaglebone Black PMIC works well, LED D2 will turn on.
6. EEPROM Address Switch
BBB-EXP43 has EEPROM Address Switch labeled as SW1 on board as Figure 2 shows. This Switch used to change the EEPROM CAT24C256W I2C address to avoid I2C bus conflict. It have two Bits connect to the A0 and A1 of CAT24C256W (Please refer to the schematic). When switch to the ON position (Left),it means this Bit has been set as Logic “0”,Or it will been set as Logic “1”.
7. About the UART signal.
BBB-EXP43 add 2 Channels UART. as Figure 2 shows.
Be Attention:
a) BeagleBone Black use UART0 as the default DEBUG signal output. BBB-EXP43 connects UART0 signal to Connector P2 and J1 at the same time. So user can use RS232 tools to debug from P2, or use TTL UART-USB tools to debug from Connector J1. But be attention, As for the TXD signal, it have been connected to the P2 and J1 at the same time. User can receive the debug signal from these two connectors at the same time. But the RXD signal can’t be connect to these two connectors at the same time, or it will cause logic conflict. BBB-EXP43 connect RXD signal to the P2 by default. That means user can input command signal from the RS232 Port P2 by default, and can’t input any signal from the TTL port J1 by default. If user wants to input from the TTL Port, user should remove the Resistor R41 and add 0 Ohm resistor to position R40. (Please refer to the schematic).
b) BBB-EXP43 changed UART2 to RS232 level, If customer don’t need these signal sand want to use these two pins as other functions, User should remove the Resistor R3 and R4(Please refer to the schematic). UART2 signal have been routed to Connector J1. If user don’t want these two signals been connected to J1(So it’s totally the same with Beaglebone Black connector J1)User should remove Resistor R42 and R43(Please refer to the schematic).

For Linux:
1. Insert the SD card into your computer, if using virtual machines, please make sure the SD card mounted to the Ubuntu(or other Linux) operating system.
2. Confirm the SD card mount point, “/dev/sdX”, usually it should be “/dev/sdb”. You can use this command to find out what the “X” is in the Linux system. $ sudo fdisk –l
3. Copy the file “bone-debian-7.4-2014-03-04-2gb.img.xz” somewhere(such as $HOME).
4. Flash the Debian OS to the SD card $ xz –cd bone-debian-7.4-2014-03-04-2gb.img.xz > /dev/sd<?>
For Windows:
1. Install "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.exe", then format the uSD card as FAT32.
2. Install "7z_win32.exe", then extract the file "bone-debian-7.4-2014-03-04-2gb.img.xz".
3. Extract "win32diskimager-v0.9.zip", write the "bone-debian-7.4-2014-03-04-2gb.img" file to uSD card.
Note: If you want to flash the OS to eMMC, you download the BBB-eMMC-flasher version here:http://beagleboard.org/latest-images
